From producers Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner, SUITED is the story of Bindle & Keep, a Brooklyn tailoring company that makes custom suits for gender-nonconforming and transgender clients. The film follows a range of clients?across the gender spectrum and spotlights the intimate journey of coming into a new identity, accepting difference and living bravely in one?s own skin. UNTAGGED continues this conversation via a portrait series that highlights the?body stories of eight people of color whose narratives go deeper than pink and blue.??The series sends a strong visual message: our bodies and our clothing are not just a source of anxiety, but also a source of pride and pleasure.
THE TENTH is an Art and Culture collective that documents the history, ideas, and aesthetics of the Black LGBTQ community.??Through its digital platforms, events, and biannual publication, THE TENTH creates a space for writers,?artists, and designers to define their own culture for themselves.??
About THE TENTH
THE TENTH engages some of the world?s most talented black, LGBTQ artists and intellectuals in creative encounters to develop cutting edge content.??THE TENTH has garnered media attention ranging from The New York Times to?The Huffington Post, and can be found in some of the world’s best shops from MoMA PS 1 and VFILES in New York City to Library of Arts in Paris.?
SUITED follows its subjects?clients seeking a personalized experience?into the minimalist office space of Bindle & Keep, a bespoke tailoring company based in Brooklyn that caters to a diverse LGBTQ community and looks?beyond the gender binary, creating custom-made suits for gender non-conforming and transgender clients. Clothier duo Rae and Daniel take a holistic approach to their work, considering each client?s personal narrative, which?becomes inextricable from the creation of the perfect suit. From Derek?s emotional journey as he prepares for his wedding, to Everett, a law student in a conservative environment, to Mel, who simply wants to look good for her 40th?birthday party?the need for well-fitting garments represents deeper meaning around identity, empowerment, and feeling good.
Going deeper than fine fabrics and silk linings, SUITED takes a modern, evolved look at gender through the conduit of clothing and elucidates the private and emotional experience surrounding it. With heart and optimism, the film?documents a cultural shift that is creating a new demand?and response?for each person?s right to go out into the world with confidence.
SUITED will be available on multiple platforms, including HBO NOW?, HBO On Demand? and HBO GO?.
SUITED is the second HBO documentary from Dunham and Konner?s A Casual Romance Productions.?
