“There is no better time to experience the magic of Matin?e than during New York Pride when we bring the world?s leading party brand to the best city on earth,” says Jake Resnicow,?Managing Partner of Matin?e North America.
Governors Island is New York City?s most versatile waterfront concert venue and event space, offering over 20,000 square feet of playground fun for adults. ??Over the years, we’ve looked into other spaces to host Matin?e but nothing compares to all that Governors Island offers,? says Patrick Crough, another Managing Partner.? ?The island has state-of-the-art staging and production, sand, sun, and one of the most incredible and easily accessed views of New York City?s beautiful skyline.?
Matin?e launched nearly twenty years ago in Ibiza with the idea to elevate parties by crafting elaborate sets and theatrical productions.? Since 2010, Resnicow and Crough (who launched his Matin?e career dancing as a go-go boy in Barcelona) have brought the international party franchise to the states with?incredible spectacles in various cities including Miami, Orlando and Los Angeles.
“We mix Broadway-show caliber production with fantasy nightlife elements,” explains Resnicow. “We combine celebrity performers, spectacular Cirque acts, unparalleled sound and lighting, and beats from the world’s hottest DJs.”
Odyssey Magazine named Matin?e “Best Gay Circuit Party” and Justcircuit.com declared it America?s “Best Circuit Tour”.? ???Jake and I have raised the brand from the ground up in the US,? adds Crough. ?We think of Matin?e as our baby.?
This year?s celebration will be the duo?s fourth time back to Governor?s Island. They made their New York debut in 2010. ?There was something special in the air that night,? recalls Crough.? ?The energy, the music, the magic of being on that island and seeing Manhattan like that for the first time. To this day, there are two or three tracks that when I hear them, they always take me back to that night.?
?We have learned so much through the years,? he continues. ?The number one thing is to pay attention to every detail. From promotion to production to hospitality, every effort goes in to making sure the boys have a great time at Matin?e Pride.?
Last year?s Pride event featured a four-story tented dance floor with state-of-the-art lights, sound and lasers, and music by Sanz, Honey Dijon, and Tom Peters.? There was also a special vocal classics set by the legendary DJ Jonathan Peters.? ?Crough and Resnicow partnered with NYC event producers Tommy Marinelli and Dance.Here.Now for the event.? They will partner with them again this year.
MATIN?E NEW YORK PRIDE 2014 will be headlined by the international DJ superstar, Boris.? Best known for playing 12-hour marathon sets of slick, pumping house music, DJ Boris got his start in the big room party scene spinning NYC?s Roxy and Limelight, and Miami?s Crobar. He has been a force in the studio as well, remixing for the likes of Janet Jackson (“All I Want”), Anastacia (“Left Outside Alone”), and Jewel (“Stand”). His mix of Pink’s “Get the Party Started” rose to the top of the club charts and remains a dance floor staple.
The event follows Matin?e Las Vegas, Crough and Resnicow?s annual west coast bonanza that has also become world renowned for its elaborate party themes.? ?Las Vegas is a destination vacation,? says Crough. ?People travel there to let their hair down and have a great time. When thousands of gay guys going to the same location with the same goal in mind – to party! ? it becomes a recipe for something special.?
?Matin?e has evolved into a party everyone knows and trusts as something that’s sure to be an unforgettable good time,? Resnicow sums up. ?It?s exciting to know that Matin?e will continue to be something special for NYC Pride for years to come.?
Free ferries will run from the Battery Maritime Building located at 10 South Street, adjacent to the Staten Island Ferry in lower Manhattan.? A portion of proceeds will benefit LifeBall and AIDS Life.
