Jerusalem’s Gay Pride Draws Thousands

About 3000 people took part in Jerusalem’s to celebrate the annual gay pride parade on Thursday. A group of Ultra-Orthodox Jew protested with donkeys and 1 man was arrested for throwing urine bags at gay pride parade.

AFP has the report:

Ultra-Orthodox Jews hurled bags of foul-smelling liquid and threats of hellfire at marchers in Jerusalem’s annual gay pride march on Thursday but the event passed without serious violence.

“A man was arrested on the spot for throwing bags of liquid at participants,” police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told AFP. “Apart from that there were no other incidents.”

In 2005, an ultra-Orthodox Jew stabbed three participants in the march and was subsequently sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Ultra-Orthodox Jews consider the event to be an abomination and desecration of the Holy City.

Police estimated the number of marchers this year at 3,000 and said that 1,000 police were deployed to keep order.

Israel National News adds:

Religious nationalists Baruch Marzel and Itamar Ben Gvir, accompanied by several younger activists, paraded donkeys down a Jerusalem street Thursday in protest of the “gay pride” parade that was held at the same time.

“Muslims, Christians, Jews, all of them are hurt by the fact that the Holy City of Jerusalem is defiled by abominations like today’s march in Jerusalem,” said Marzel.

“These donkeys do not commit acts that are as bad as what the marchers are doing,” Marzel added.
