LA based Alternative / Indie band Trapdoor Social released a stripped down-acoustic version of their current single “Fine On My Own“. “It comes from us getting back to the basics,” vocalist Skylar Funk explained in a recent interview with Myspace. “Acoustic instruments and voices – which we’ve been doing for training purposes (but is also really fun!)”

Trapdoor Social’s founding members Merritt Graves and Skylar Funk met in an environmental program at Pomona College and bonded over a shared concern for the future of the planet. They started off a journey to make music and perhaps do some good along the way. The band got their music off the ground with the 2012 EP?Death of a Friend, produced by Curt Schneider, and featuring Death Cab for Cutie’s Jason McGerr on drums. The EP made waves when “Like You Never” became the #1 listener-requested track on KROQ’s “Locals Only” show, and the single “Away” enjoyed radio play from a number of major market stations around the US. The band’s current single “Fine On My Own” has reached “Hall of Fame” status on Las Vegas’ X107.5’s nightly contest “The Beatdown” by winning ten times in a row, and also just won MTVU’s “The Freshmen”? voting contest, gaining regular rotation for the song nationally for six weeks. The song has additionally garnered radio airplay in many major markets around the country.
Trapdoor Social is currently in the studio in Los Angeles with Curt Schneider and Youngblood Hawke’s Simon Katz working on their debut full length album, set for release in 2016. The band plans to tour the country in support the album with a mobile solar charge station in their trailer, which will enable them to put on full, outdoor show productions using entirely solar-powered equipment. Their first solar-powered show will take place in Los Angeles on October 24th, location TBD.
