As a young girl growing up in Sweden, one of the first voices?that Bergendahl adored belonged to “Fast Car” singer Tracy Chapman. Life has a way of coming full circle and, a dozen years later,Bergendahl found herself in the studio with GRAMMY?-winning producer Larry Klein – the man who helmed Tracy Chapman’s 2008 album, Our Bright Future, and played on several of her other albums, including her debut. Klein, also well known for his work with Joni Mitchell and Herbie Hancock, produced the bulk of Something To Believe In, which was recorded in Los Angeles at historic Henson Studios.
Something To Believe In is a stunning collection of songs about the human condition that resonate with a haunting beauty, illuminated by Bergendahl‘s soaring, rich vocals.?The deeply romantic “For You” is the album’s first single. “I had just been to a wedding and I wanted to?write a song with the feeling that you want to give everything to someone,” says Bergendahl.?Thelyric video for the track can be viewed HERE and the swirling Broiler remix of “For You” – helmed by Norwegian duo Simen and Mikkel and already Platinum in Scandinavia – can be streamed HERE.
Fun” finds Bergendahl referencing everyone from Ernest Hemingway to Kim Kardashian over a southern-flavored jumble of slide guitars, piano, and driving drums,” said American Songwriter. Other standout tracks from Something To Believe In include the stomping rave-up “I Don’t?Know” and the soul-piercing title track, which seeks a ray of hope in the darkness.
For the past four years, Bergendahl has served?as Goodwill Ambassador for the Swedish United Nations Association. She works on campaigns that support girls’ rights in developing countries, to end child marriages and female genital mutilation and to promote education.
“This world is crazy and we all need to do what we can to make it less crazy,” she says. “We all need something to believe in.”
