NY Daily News reports:
Every couple who entered a lottery to get hitched on Sunday – the first day gay marriage is legal in New York – has won, officials said Thursday.
As the noon deadline to sign up passed, 823 couples had registered for the love-bird lottery.
City officials had initially announced they would limit the number of Sunday weddings to 764 to prevent clerks from being overwhelmed.
But a last minute decision, boosted the number to accommodate everyone who registered for the lottery in time, officials said.
“Everybody wins!” said City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. “This Sunday, all New Yorkers will be winners when we make history and move human rights forward in all five boroughs.”
