Delaware Senate Approves Same-Sex Unions

The Delaware senate passed a measure Thursday afternoon that would grant same-sex couples the same legal protections and responsibilities as married couples. The bill now heads to the house for approval

The state Senate has approved a bill offering legal recognition to same-sex couples in Delaware.

The bill allowing same-sex civil unions passed the Senate on a 13-to-6 vote Thursday and now goes to the House.

The legislation would authorize civil unions only for same-sex couples, continuing to limit marriage under Delaware law to opposite-sex couples.
