Matt Zarley has received critical acclaim as an openly gay singer/songwriter; has been named one of People Magazine?s ?Hottest Bachelors?; has performed on Broadway; and, has had dance hits that have heated up not only the hottest dance clubs around the world but, the Billboard charts as well! He was named one of Billboard magazine?s ?Critics Top 10? picks and the magazine added:
??Tweens have plenty of idols to swoon over. Here?s a crush for grown-ups, whose earthy machismo is quite the complement to his musical muscle?.a marquee mainstream artist is born.?
Matt Zarley began his career at 12 years old, dancing with Tony the Tiger in a Kellogg?s Frosted Flakes commercial. Subsequently, his career has taken him to Broadway where, still just a teenager, he made his Broadway debut in A Chorus Line. He has also appeared in Cats, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Chicago, and has played the title roles in both Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and The Who?s Tommy on Broadway.
Matt?s passion for music led him from Broadway to songwriting and recording.? His first solo album, ?Debut,? which was released in 2002 received critical acclaim, and featured the Billboard dance hit, ?You Always Want (what u ain?t got)? and ?Say Goodbye?; which is also featured on the all-star Human Rights Campaign (HRC) benefit CD, ?Being Out Rocks,? alongside such artists as Sarah McLachlan and Rufus Wainright, among others.
Zarley?s next recording, ?Here I Am,? had its title track chosen as one of the 2008 ?American Idol Songwriter? competition?s Top 20 finalists in the prestigious national contest.? The EP also features the ballads ?Had I Known,? ?All That Matters,? a duet with Ty Taylor that focuses on gay marriage. Matt scored additional Billboard Dance Chart hits with ?Where Did You Come From,? as well as a cover of the Steve Winwood classic ?While You See A Chance,? featuring Billy Porter.
All of the songs on Zarley?s latest CD, ?Change Begins With Me? (available August 23, 2011) were co-penned by Zarley and feature such songwriting collaborators and producers as Grammy winner Andy Zulla and Mark Picchiotti, among others. Songs such as ?Perfect,? ?Forgive Me (For Not Forgiving You),? ?Thank You For You,? ?Trust Me,? ?Apology,? and ?I?ll Always Remember? reflect the journeys of some of Zarley?s personal relationships with a poignancy and self-discovery for the singer/songwriter.
?Like many songwriters, my music is really inspired by love and heartbreak,? admits Zarley. ?During the recovery process after a painful break up a few years ago I had an epiphany and after accepting my contributions to the reason for the split, I really began to work on myself.? I believe that you can never really expect people to change and sometimes it requires you to change things in your own life to find happiness,? says Zarley. ?If you want your life to change, I think those changes first have to start within.?? From this experience Matt co-wrote the title track, with Zulla and Chris Curtis, (featuring the amazing sounds of the Broadway Inspirational Voices).
In addition, the CD features the hot dance tune, ?WTF,? co-written by Matt and renowned DJ/producer, Mark Picchiotti, who also took on the role of producer for the original track as well as two of the remixes.? In addition, the massive set features a total of 23 remixes by some superstar heavyweights including Wideboys, Moto Blanco, Cutmore, Cevin Fisher, Joe Gauthreaux and Edson Pride.? The single recently debuted at #2 on the Billboard Breakouts for Hot Dance Club Play chart and is already climbing the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart.
In addition to his performing credits, Matt is also an internationally published songwriter and has had numerous songs recorded and released overseas by some of the biggest names in international music.? In addition, he has the distinction of being named the first openly gay bachelor in People Magazine?s ?Hottest Bachelors? issue in 2002 ? opening the door for other openly gay men to be featured in the mainstream publication.
