Fort Carson Soldiers Attacked In Suspected Hate Crime

A group of gay soldiers from Fort Carson were attacked in a possible hate crime.

KRDO News Channel 13 reports:

A group of people was beaten up at a fast food restaurant early Saturday morning off of Austin Bluffs. They said they believe they were targeted because they are gay.

Two of the victims are Fort Carson soldiers. They asked to remain anonymous.

?I’m a tanker,? said one victim, who we will refer to as John. He specializes in combat.

?Combat MOS (military occupational specialty),? said John, ?which is definitely frowned upon for homosexuality.?

Another victim, who we will call Ted, said that most of his peers know he is gay. ?Most people know,? said Ted. ?But I don’t need people higher up knowing. I still have to protect myself as far as on the military side.?
