Los Angeles, December 1, 2015 – Wolfe Releasing announced today that it has acquired gay comedy-horror film You’re Killing Me, after its successful and critically acclaimed run at LGBT and horror film festivals throughout the year. Wolfe has secured all worldwide rights, with a 2016 spring release planned on DVD, VOD, cable, and additional digital platforms.
You’re Killing Me stars Jeffery Self as George, an internet comedy star whose friends are so steeped in irony and sarcasm they don’t know a serial killer when they meet one. When George’s deranged, handsome new boyfriend Joe (Matthew McKelligon) tells him he’s a murderer, George thinks it’s a joke and plays along. As George’s friends start disappearing one by one, the remaining group take matters into their own hands.
Created by director / co-writer Jim Hansen (creator of The Chloe Videos) and co-writer / star Jeffery Self (Jeffery & Cole Casserole, Gay of Thrones) the film also stars Matthew McKelligon (Interior. Leather. Bar., Eastsiders). Cast includes cult comedy favorites Drew Droege (The Chloe Videos), Jack Plotnick (Meet The Fockers, Reno 911!), Mindy Cohn (The Facts of Life), Bryan Safi (Funny or Die), Matthew Wilkas (Gayby), and Sam Pancake (Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde).
The deal was negotiated by Jim Stephens, President of Wolfe Releasing, and Grant Derkac and Cullen Conly of ICM Partners.
“Jim Hansen and Jeffery Self have created an original and wholly new genre twist with this gay serial-killer comedy film,” said Stephens. “The level of creativity and talent in this film is tremendous. Matthew McKelligon’s Dexter-esque lead performance is especially outstanding and we are truly proud to be bringing it to audiences everywhere.”?Said Hansen, “We’ve had the pleasure of seeing many diverse crowds love our genre-bending film, and we were looking for a partner with the savvy to understand this. Wolfe was at the top of my wish list because of the forward thinking films they represent. I am thrilled that they are excited to work with us.”
You’re Killing Me world premiered at 2015 Inside Out Toronto, and has played numerous U.S. and international festivals, winning audience awards and critical acclaim. Frontiers Media called it ‘A litany of hilarious gay talent,” and The Toronto Star named it a ‘wickedly funny camp horror-romance.”
