Golden Globes 2015

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler kicked off the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on Sunday, Jan. 11. The Golden Globes honor the best in film and television.

The coming of age movie “Boyhood,” which was filmed over 12 years, took home the biggest award of the night, best motion picture, drama. Patricia Arquette also won for best supporting actress for her role in the film and its director, Richard Linklater, also scored a Golden Globe.

In a surprise win, Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel was named best comedy or musical film.

Eddie Redmayne, for The Theory of Everything, and Julianne Moore in Still Alice took top honours for best actor and actress in a drama.

In TV, Downton Abbey actress Joanna Froggatt took television’s best supporting actress award, while it was a good night for the TV series Fargo, which won two awards including one for actor Billy Bob Thornton.

Amazon comedy-drama Transparent celebrated wins for best TV comedy and best actor in a TV comedy for Jeffrey Tambor’s role as a transgender woman.

Transparent creator Jill Soloway accepted the award, and dedicated it to the memory of Leelah Alcorn, a trans teen who committed suicide in December.

Okay. I want to thank the HFPA. I want to thank Amazon, Jeff Bezos, Joe Lewis, my friends. I want to thank UTA, Larry Sols and Blair Callahan for loving me and supporting me; my family, Bruce, Felix, Isaac, Faith, Elaine; this family and the actors and the writers and the crew. I want to thank the trans community. They are our family. They make this possible. This award is dedicated to the memory of Leelah Alcorn and to many trans people who died too young. And it’s dedicated to you, my transparent, my Moppa. You are watching at home right now, and I just want to thank you for coming out because, in doing so, you made a break for freedom. You told your truth. You taught me how to tell my truth and make this show, and maybe we are going to be able to teach the world something about authenticity and truth and love. To love.

Jeffrey Tambor thanked the transgender community.

Hello. Oh, this is big. This is much bigger than me. Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for putting us on the map and making people aware of our story. Jill Soloway, you have changed my life. For the better, by the way.

And thank you for the gift and thank you for the responsibility of Maura Pfefferman from the Pacific Palisades. Thank you, magnificent, stellar, innovative cast. You led me all the way. You told me all the way. You inspired me all the way. Rhys Ernst, Zachary Drucker, Jenny Boylan, thank you. You led me through the steps to find more of Jeffrey than I’ve ever known in my entire life. To Amazon, my new best friend.

To Joe Lewis, my new best friend. To my wife, Kasia Tambor. If it weren’t for you, honey, I wouldn’t be standing up here tonight. Check that. I would not be standing. And finally, if I may, I would like to dedicate my performance and this award to the transgender community.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your courage. Thank you for your inspiration. Thank you for your patience. And thank you for letting us be a part of the change. Thanks.
