Sexy Hunk Joe Manganiello Covers Muscle & Fitness Magazine

True Blood star Joe Manganiello covers the July issue of Muscle & Fitness Magazine. Joe is giving details about his workout routine and in the featured article by Mike Carlson with Photographs by Patrick Hoelck. Here are some extracts.

On how his female fans keeps him motivated to workout.

“I had a friend of mine call me and tell me that it was a girl’s birthday in his office, and they got her a cake with my picture on it. A year ago I wasn’t on anybody’s cake. It makes me feel really good, and it makes me want to work even harder from a fitness standpoint.”

On his weight:

“I’m 220 pounds on the nose,” says Manganiello. “Funny thing is, everyone keeps saying, ‘How much weight did you lose? You look so much thinner!’ But all my measurements have gone up. My waist is two inches smaller, but my shoulders, arms, and chest have all gone up. That’s how I know it’s working.”

On the perception of American actors:

“I think that in the past 15 years,” he says, “the American leading man has gotten really sensitive. As a result, the Brits and Aussies are killing us as far as man’s men go. But when I look at what I had to go through when I said I wanted to be an actor—a lot of kids probably do cave and go the other direction, and I’m sure we’ve lost a lot of really great actors through peer pressure.”

Joe’s Workout Program:

The program is a six-days-on, one-dayoff body-part split—with cardio done every day—broken into three workouts to be performed twice per week: chest and legs on Monday and Thursday, shoulders and biceps on Tuesday and Friday, and back and triceps on Wednesday and Saturday.

His main work sets are four supersets combining one move for each body part—chest and legs, in the example shown at right—followed by a high-intensity cardio interval. Manganiello performs each superset four times before moving to the next. There’s no rest between exercises, and only as much rest between supersets as it takes to set up the next station.
