LA Pride Press Release – The 42nd annual LA PRIDE Parade has been named third in its category by BizBash, the leading trade media for the event industry. In Southern California’s Top 100 Events, the LA PRIDE Parade joined the Tournament of Roses and Fiesta Broadway who took first and second, respectively, in the Parade, Walk and Holiday Event category. Each year BizBash releases its “picks for the events that annually draw the biggest buzz, crowds, media and donor attention, and are important players in their respective fields.”
In 2012, LA PRIDE smashed attendance records for the Parade and Festival Celebration with, according to the LA Sheriff’s Department, well over 400,000 in West Hollywood for the 42nd annual parade. Christopher Street West (CSW), a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization, has been producing the LA PRIDE Parade since 1970 and has the distinction of being the world’s first Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Parade.
“CSW is honored to receive this recognition as it continues its mission to be a leader in LGBT visibility and equality,” said Owen Ward, CSW Board Member. “That nearly 43 years ago our founders had to take legal action to produce the first pride parade is a testament to their vision of coming together and celebrating our lives openly.”
The colorful LA PRIDE Parade showcased over 120 parade entries dazzling the crowds along Santa Monica Boulevard with floats, marchers, rainbows, glitter and bubbles. Set in newly redesigned West Hollywood Park, the LA PRIDE Festival Celebration saw a reenergized vision that included a vibrant pool party, top-name talent across two performance stages and five dance venues.
In addition to being one of the most sought after Pride destinations in the world, LA PRIDE is a powerful economic engine for host city West Hollywood and surrounding areas. According to the West Hollywood Marketing and Visitors Bureau, hotel occupancy for LA PRIDE weekend was a well over 90 percent. “We are thrilled with the great success of LA PRIDE 2012,” said Genevieve Morrill, President/CEO of the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce,”It brings phenomenal amounts of business to West Hollywood and as they succeed, so does our entire business community.”
Additionally, Christopher Street West is proud to introduce the 2012 LA PRIDE Video Recap, a quick way to re-visit the fun, excitement and camaraderie of this year’s celebration.
