Search for Mr. Gay Canada Starts in Winnipeg‏

Winnipeg’s FameNightclub is the first stop in a cross country search for Mr. Gay Canada

Vancouver, BC – October 11, 2012 - The cross country search for the next Mr. Gay Canada starts this weekend (Sat., Oct. 13th) in Winnipeg at Fame Nightclub. The contestants will show case their knowledge in LGBT human rights, leadership skills and wow the judges with their public speaking and charisma.

MGC Winnipeg presented by Fame Nightclub will be hosted by JD Francis from Energy 106FM and the fabulous Tyra Boinks. Special performances by Devine Darlin – Toronto’s next drag superstar and Winnipeg’s own Satina Loren. The judges include: Chad Smith of Rainbow Resource Centre; Lorena Gaudio – Metro Winnipeg Newspaper; and Devine Darlin. Doors open at 8PM on Saturday, October 13th with the show to begin at 9PM.

The winner from the Winnipeg competition will be flown to Whistler to attend the fifth annual Mr. Gay Canada Grand Finale at WinterPRIDE in Whistler from February 5-8, 2013. All of the contestants from across Canada will meet and compete to see who will win the ultimate prize in representing the nation at the Mr. Gay World competition in Antwerp, Belgium hosted by the WorldOutgames.

Last year, Mr. Gay Canada awarded Thomas Egli (Vancouver) the opportunity to represent the nation in the world competition in Johannesburg, South Africa. Egli said, “this journey has been exceptional and exciting. The weeks leading up to this competition and the events themselves have taught me much about myself and I feel that I have grown immeasurably more than expected.”

The 2013 Mr. Gay Canada competition continues across the nation with stops in Saskatoon, Victoria, Vancouver as well as individual applications where a city competition is not possible. In total Mr. Gay Canada expects to have ten men in Whistler for the grand finale.

WinterPRIDE 2013 runs from February 3-10, 2013, and continues to revolutionize the traditional gay ski week format with its unique blend of four winter festival elements: Sports, Culinary, Health and Wellness, and Entertainment.

In addition to the world-class skiing and snowboarding being offered in Whistler, many of WinterPRIDE’s regular highlights will return for 2013, such as an array of dance parties, culinary events, zip trekking and dog sledding.
