
Australia will have it’s first gay and lesbian museum and cultural centre in an old Collingwood church hall

Plans are afoot to create Australia’s first gay and lesbian museum and cultural centre in an old Collingwood church hall.
Yarra Council is seeking a tenant for the former Congregational Church Hall in Peel St, which has stood empty for many years.
Prominent gay publican Tom McFeely, with the backing of a group of other local businesses, has applied to turn the building into a centre featuring historical displays, art and educational programs.
Mr McFeely said the centre would promote understanding and not court controversy.
“There would be nothing confrontational – I’m not talking about artwork with penises,” Mr McFeely said. “It would be a place where gay people and straight people could go along and get some information and history about the (gay and lesbian) community.
