A new study finds that gay men’s health improves when their state legalizes same-sex marriage.
AHN News reports:
Gay men in states that offer legal protection for same-sex couples lead healthier, less stress-filled lives, according to a new study.
Columbia University researchers came to the conclusion after examining the effects of the legalization of same-sex marriage in Massachusetts.
They said that 12 months following the 2003 legalization of same-sex marriage in the state, gay and bisexual men had a significant decrease in medical care visits, mental health care visits and mental health care costs, compared with the 12 months before the law changed.
This amounted to a 13 percent reduction in health care visits and a 14 percent drop in health care costs, according to the researchers.
