Gay Activist And Bar Owner Murdered In New York

A gay rights activist and owner of the N.Y. club Chill in Elmira, was shot dead in his home early Sunday morning.

Friends and associates are mourning the death early Sunday of an Elmira man who was an outspoken supporter of gay rights, while police search for his killer.

Clinton “Billy” Lewis, 53, was shot around 3 a.m. Sunday in his home at 702 N. Main St. in the city, according to a news release from Elmira police.

Officers found Lewis inside after responding to a report about a gunshot victim, police said.

A 20-year-old Horseheads man is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of an Elmira man early Sunday.

Louis Duffy was arraigned in Elmira City Court and is being held in the Chemung County Jail without bail.
