700,000 Take Part In Rio Gay Pride Annual Parade

The Associated Press reports that nearly 700,000 people gathered in the streets of Copacabana Beach to celebrate the annual gay pride parade in Rio De Janeiro on Sunday, October 9th 2011.

This year the LGBT community in Brazil marched for the legalization of gay marriage and the creation of new laws that criminalize homophobia.

More than a dozen of trucks decorated with rainbow colors were prepared for the celebration of the 16th gay pride parade in town. The local police and the organizers were expecting about 1,5 millions to show up, but only 700,000 attended the event.

Brazil has the largest LGBT community in Latin America. Rio De Janerio has become one the favorite destinations for gay tourist in the world.
