The New York Times announced that Frank Bruni will be an Op-Ed Columnist. This makes Bruni the first openly gay writer to hold such a position in the paper’s 160-year history.

Best-selling author and award-winning journalist Frank Bruni has been named an op-ed columnist for The New York Times.
The Times announced the appointment on its website Monday, saying Bruni would write about the week’s biggest stories from “a different or unexpected angle.”
Bruni’s new column will appear in the Times’ redesigned Sunday op-ed pages.
The newspaper said Bruni will be “the first openly gay op-ed columnist” in its 160-year history. The 46-year-old told the newspaper he was “excited and really grateful.”
