Gay Couple Attacked in Washington

Michael Hall and Michael Roike were attacked Saturday night in a random act of violence. Thankfully, they are both alive and were not injured beyond repair. Sadly, Michael Hall was taken to the hospital and required surgery to repair a broken cheek bone.

NY Daily News has the story:

A 29-year-old yoga instructor and his boyfriend say they were pummeled by young hoodlums as they walked home in Washington in an attack that sent one of them to the hospital with a broken jaw.

D.C. police hadn’t classified Sunday’s reported assault against Michael Hall Jr. and partner Michael Roike as a hate crime, but were investigating the possibility, according to reports Tuesday.

Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said homophobic slurs had been hurled at the victims, although she didn’t say who heard them, The Washington Post reported. The case was referred to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Gay and Lesbian Liaison Unit.

A police statement described the attackers as three black males wearing dark clothing, Metro Weekly reported.
