Rick Heintz and Michael Hampton star in Man Boobs, a new comedy by J. Julian Christopher, which opens Pride Films and Plays second season in Chicago. The dark comedy runs Feb 16 to March 10 at Mary’s Attic, 5400 N. Clark, with tickets available at www.brownpapertickets.com (1800 838 3006).
Director David Zak sees Man Boobs as a delightful new wrinkle in gay theater. “It is refreshing to have two regular guys who want only to connect and experience a new type of intimacy on stage,” Zak said, “and while the gay tradition of ‘cute boys in their underwear plays’ will never go away completely, it is exciting for gay audiences to experience ‘what’s new and who’s next’ as Pride Films and Plays develops new gay plays and screenplays.
Man Boobs was developed at New York’s Public Theater, workshopped at East L.A. Rep and then ran in New York City at The Fresh Fruit Festival in 2010. Man Boobspremiered in Montréal at The Rialto Theatre in 2011 and was presented by Village Scene Productions. It is currently part of Australia’s Midsumma Festival, presented by Jack Chapman and The VicBears.
