Hedwig and the Angry Inch is the story of a transgendered punk rock singer from East Berlin who, while touring America with her band, the Angry Inch, shares her life story with the audience. Hedwig opened at off-Broadway’s Jane Street Theatre on February 14, 1998 with Mitchell as Hedwig and Broadway alum Miriam Shor as bandmate and husband Yitzhak. The show played 857 performances before closing April 9, 2000. In 2010, Mitchell announced he would reprise his performance in Hedwig on Broadway, but the revival never came to fruition.
