Hugh Jackman will return to Broadway during the 2013/2014 season starring as America’s greatest showman in HOUDINI.
The New York Times reports:
Hugh Jackman, whose recent Broadway concert smashed several box office records, grossing $14.6 million in just 10 weeks, has committed to returning to Broadway in the 2013-14 season to star as the early-20th-century escape artist Harry Houdini in the long-gestating musical “Houdini,” the lead producers of the project announced on Wednesday.
The musical will feature a score by Stephen Schwartz, the composer of “Wicked” and “Godspell,” and a book by Aaron Sorkin, who won the Academy Award for best adapted screenplay last year for “The Social Network” and is the Emmy-winning creator of the NBC series “The West Wing.” “Houdini” will be directed by the Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien (“Hairspray”); Scott Sanders and David Rockwell are the lead producers.
