The Carmel Art & Film Festival announces:
The great news is James Franco is coming to the Carmel Art and Film Festival for the U.S. premiere of his new film SAL, a biopic about actor Sal Mineo who was best known as James Dean’s troubled sidekick in “Rebel Without A Cause.” Mineo broke ground as one of Hollywood’s first openly gay actors and then was murdered in 1976 under mysterious circumstances. Franco has a small on screen role in the film but as director, he does most of his work behind the camera. Franco is hard at work on his latest project, and in order to accommodate his shooting schedule – he has to be back in Detroit Monday morning – we have to screen SAL at noon on Sunday, October 16.
About the film:
A film about the rise of teen idol Sal Mineo. Once one of the hottest stars in Hollywood, our story follows Sal’s meteoric rise to the top then, through that “Hollywood slump” that so many in Hollywood experienced. Sal however so eloquently fought his way through it and just as he was going to reemerge as a Hollywood heavyweight, his life was tragically cut short. As a reality and achievement of this film, Sal Mineo will receive his due recognition and star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, closing the final chapter of the “Forgotten Legend’s” life.
