“Veterans United” Launch Statewide Tour in Opposition to Marriage Amendment

Congressman Walz, Jeff & Lori Wilfahrt to Co-Chair Veterans United; Veterans to Gather at State Capitol to Launch Coalition Aimed At Encouraging Minnesotans to Vote No to Limiting Freedom to Marry.

Press Release – September 25, 2012 – Saint Paul, MN – Today at 10:00 a.m. at the Minnesota State Capitol, U.S. Congressman Tim Walz joined co-chairs Jeff & Lori Wilfahrt and other Minnesota veterans to launch Veterans United – a coalition of men and women veterans of the armed services who are united to oppose the amendment that would limit the freedom to marry for gay and lesbian couples in Minnesota.

Congressman Walz joined co-chairs Lori and Jeff Wilfahrt, whose son, Andrew, an openly gay soldier from Rosemount, was killed in Afghanistan in 2011, as they speak about why this amendment would have singled him out and excluded him from the freedom to marry the person he loved, had he returned safely home to Minnesota. They were also joined Trista Matascastillo, U.S. Marine and Minnesota Army National Guard, and Brian Cihacek, Minnesota Army National Guard.

Veterans United is a new coalition partner of Minnesotans United for All Families. The group will travel the state in the coming weeks to talk about why the freedom they served to protect is freedom for everyone and how this amendment would use the constitution to take those freedoms away from a certain group of people.
