Clay Aiken speaks against amendment to ban same-sex couples in North Carolina a new campaign for the group Protecting All North Carolina Families.
NBC reports:
Former “American Idol” runner up Clay Aiken is using his celebrity for a cause that hits home.
The North Carolina native, who announced he was gay a few years ago, is trying to fight a proposed amendment in the state that would ban gay marriage.
Aiken is featured in a YouTube video for the group, Protecting All North Carolina Families.
“No matter what we might want a family to look like we can’t put into a constitution a document that’s supposed to protect our rights,” said Aiken.
In the video, Aiken says the amendment goes too far and could hurt kids.
“It will take away protection from kids who right now may have health care because one of their parents has health care at work,” said Aiken.
Amendment One would create a constitutional amendment defining marriage between one man and one woman.
