October 21, 2014 [NEW YORK] ? Cyndi Lauper?s True Colors Fund today announced the 4th annual ?? benefit concert on Saturday, December 6th?at New York City?s historic Beacon Theatre to help raise awareness about lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth homelessness and funds to support the True Colors Fund?s work to address the problem.
Cyndi Lauper will be joined on stage this year by 50 Cent, Natalie Maines, Patty Griffin, Salt-N-Pepa, Sufjan Stevens, Emily West, STRFKR, Liv Warfield, Hoda Kotb, and co-hosts Rosie O?Donnell and Laverne Cox. Additional guests will be announced soon. Tickets will be available at starting Friday, October 24th.
?For the fourth year in a row, ?Home for the Holidays? will feature an amazing night of performances in support of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth experiencing homelessness,”?said Lauper, co-founder of the True Colors Fund.?”I am astounded by the artists who continue to give of their time and talent each and every year and I am so excited by the line-up who are joining us in December. The concert plays such an important role in supporting the True Colors Fund?s work to ensure that no young person is homeless again because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.?
In America, up to 40 percent of the 1.6 million youth that are homeless each year are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. Yet, only up to seven percent of the general youth population is LGBT. The most cited reason for this disproportionate rate is family rejection based on sexual orientation or gender identity. As the only national organization solely focused on LGBT youth homelessness in America, the True Colors Fund is educating and engaging the public, advocating within government, collaborating with young people, conducting leading research, and aiding communities in building their capacity to prevent and address LGBT youth homelessness.
100% of the net proceeds from the concert will go to underwrite the True Colors Fund?s many programs.
?Cyndi Lauper & Friends: Home for the Holidays? is proud to have the support of Platinum Sponsors Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, American Airlines, and Van Gogh Vodka, Gold Sponsor The Est?e Lauder Companies Inc., and Silver Sponsors Barclays, Johnson & Johnson, Kinky Boots, The Madison Square Garden Company, Masie Productions, Oriental Medicine Specialists, and USA Network?s Characters Unite.
